■建築再生デザイン会議とは■
これまで建築技術は、いかにすばらしい建築を作り上げるかを目標として発展してきました。デザインも空間にいかなる形を与えるかに力を注いできました。しかし建築の寿命が尽きたときどのようにして姿を消していったらよいのか、心にとどめるためにどのようにしたらよいのかについては、ほとんど考えられていなかったと思います。ゆっくりと自然に最後まで燃焼していくような、そんな建築の終わり方は不可能でしょうか。廃棄される"物"となって、ある日忽然と姿を消すのではなく、建築をいかに壊すのか、いかに取り替えるのか、そしていかに残すのかという、未着手の研究テーマが、いま私たちに与えられているように思います。建築再生デザイン会議は、新しい建築の文化を切り拓くために、このような討議を行うことを目的として設立された団体です。
■ What is Architectural Regeneration Design Conference?■
Architectural technology has evolved through
the architects' drive to "create" buildings of the highest quality. Similarly,
architectural design has concerned itself, mainly, with how to "create" unique
architectural spaces.
While most architects excelled in
the process of creating new buildings, very few have concerned them with
"building at the end of its life". Most architects have neglected "elderly
architecture" and have forgotten ways to preserve buildings' heroic moments in
their memory. Some of the architects have come to believe that the society
should not allow elderly buildings to be degraded down to mere "waste" objects
and eventually wiped out of its existence in disgrace. Can't a building be
allowed to make graceful and natural exit, when it has reached its given span of
life?
As we move towards 21st Century with the growing
public interest in the global environmental condition, architects must address
the theme of how to 'un-build', 'rejuvenate' and 'preserve' existing
architectural inventory of our cities".
Architectural
Regeneration Design Conference (ARDC) is an organization seeking to establish
new frontier in the architectural culture through constructive discourse between
those with similar goals.
