Architectural Regeneration Design Conference
〜First Meeting in Nagasaki〜
"Death Bed and Rebirth of Architecture Considered"

Conference Objective:
First meeting of ARDC will focus on Nagasaki Aquarium (circa 1959) which was built with the atomic bombing rehabilitation funds from the Nagasaki Urban Cultural Construction Act. One of the important buildings in the history of Modern Japanese Architecture, the aquarium has been closed, since 1998, waiting for a verdict as to its future. ARDC will look back at the 40-year life of this building and discuss the meaning of the architecture and its existence.
(Note) Nagasaki Aquarium: Designed by Professor Motoo Take who is a native of Nagasaki, and was operated by the semi-public management company. The aquarium was loved by the people of Nagasaki for many years, but was closed in the spring of 1998,due to long-term financial problems. Presently owned by Nagasaki Institute of Applied.
